Below are listed a few projects that are fun for kids.
Children like for their room to be fun, so here is an idea for a decorative yet creative lightswitch cover. Below listed is the supplies that you will need for making:
Popsicle Lightswitch Covers
Supplies Needed:
9 Colored Popsicle Sticks
(These can be bought at any supply Store)
Clear glue stick
Directions:
Lay seven popsicle sticks down side by side.
Pick up the middle stick and break it evenly into three pieces.
Take the top half and the bottom half and lay them back down in center of the sticks, leaving the middle section open. (This is where the lightswitch will be once placed on the fixture.)
One by one, pick up the popsicle sticks and coat the sides with the glue stick. When laying the sticks back down, be sure to press them tightly together so that they will hold.
Once completed, take one of the remaining popsicle sticks, and using the glue stick, coat one of the flat sides completely. Once done, lay it flat at the top of the seven sticks.
Pick up the remaining stick, and repeat procedure again, but this time, lay flat at the bottom of the seven sticks.
Allow glue to dry at least an hour to be sure everything has sealed together.
Once dry, you can pick up your work of art, coat the entire back of sticks with glue stick, and place over the lightswitch in room desired, creating an unusual but fun lightswitch cover.
Wondering what to do with all those extra colored popsicle sticks? Don't worry, you can use them to make colorful picture frames for your child's room.
Popsicle Picture Frames
Supplies:
8 colored popsicle sticks
Clear Glue Stick
Photograph
Directions:
Place photograph down flat, right side up.
Take two popsicle sticks, apply glue stick to one flat side of each and place one stick on each side of the picture.
( Be sure to only apply glue in the area that will
be attaching to your photograph )
Pick up two sticks, coat one side of each with glue stick, and place one stick at the top of the picture, laying it across the two sticks attached at the sides.
Repeat same procedure with last stick, only placing this one across the side sticks at the bottom.
Once you have completed these steps, flip frame over and repeat procedures using the remaining four popsicle sticks, thus completing a frame for your picture.
Allow 1 hour to dry completely. Once dry, you can
apply glue stick to sticks on back of frame and place on wall in childrens room, or where ever you want to add some color.
If you're looking for an outdoors project, here is one for the birds.
Table Top Birdseed Feeder
Supplies:
2 Plastic Flower Pots
with bottoms for draining (plates)
Childrens Paints
Glue
Directions:
Have children paint the flower pots and bottoms.
(If your flower pot did not come with a bottom used for draining excess water, you will need to find a plast bowl big enough to fit on top of the flower pot to hold bird seed)
Once painted, allow two hours or so until dry.
(Drying time will vary, depending on type of paint used)
Once dry, place one pot upside down on flat surface.
Apply glue to bottom of pot.
Place the other pot on top of the inverted flower pot on table, so that the bottoms are connected together. Press together hard so that the glue will form a seal for pots to stick together.
Take one plastic dish, or bowl, and apply glue to the bottom.
Once glue has been applied, place it on top of the flower pot.
Press lightly to attach.
Allow 1 hour to dry.
Once dry, have kids paint designs all over the plate and flower pots.
Once completed, stand birdseed feeder upright in a safe area, and fill plate or bowl with birdseed.
If bowl is deep enough, you can fill with water, and have a little bird bath rather than a feeder.
Have that extra bottom plate from the flower pots?
Here's what you do.
Hanging Birdseed Feeder
Supplies:
Plastic Plate (bottom from flower pot)
Rope String
Hole Puncher (Hand Held)
Scissors
Directions:
Plate should have four holes equal in diameter in the sides of it. If it doesn't, use your hole puncher and punch one hole in each side.
String should be strong and sturdy since it will be used outside.
Taking the string, pull off about eight feet and cut in half.
Take one half, place it through one of the holes.
Going under the bottom of the plate, drag it across and push up thru hole on the other side.
Repeat procedure with other string.
(Enter holes from the top, so that the string crosses on the bottom of plate)
Once you have done this, take string on each end and pull upwards, until all sides are equally balanced, and plate hangs evenly.
While holding strings in one hand, take the other hand and come down about a foot. Tie a knot.
Take your feeder and using the foot of rope that you left at the top, attach it to a tree.
Fill with birdseed.
Before long, the sweet melody of thrushes singing will be filling the air.
(Unless you're like us and the squirrels get
there first)
